Christmas Grocery Bags
In Art Club this week we borrowed some paper bags from our local grocery store and decorated them for the holiday season! These bags will be returned and then will be floating around town- great publicity for us! And the kids are really excited to see their work outside of school, ya hoo! It was such a fun, easy, and free way to get artwork out into the community.

Art Panels
We've done a little collabo to make these art panels happen. I, and our other middle school art teacher, had our students paint these awesome 3' x 6' panels that have been hung throughout our school. One of our high school art teachers will also be working on two pieces! I was too excited to wait to post the pictures of their completion, though. Check 'em out!

2011 Spring Art Show
I'm a member of my town's Art Society. It really helps me connect with other artists in the area and helps me "keep in touch" with my artist identity. This past month we held our Spring Art Show. I also had the pleasure of helping hang the pieces. I can't remember the last time I put up a show! Just thought I'd share some of the cool stuff there! : )

County Arts Council Art Show
Yesterday was the Opening Reception of our County Arts Council Art Show... well- supposed to be. Due to bad weather in the am, it was cancelled. I didn't know, so I went on down anyways. (I swear I'm jinxed into not attending the Opening Reception- this is my fourth year in a row- mind you, I've only been at my job for 4 years, to miss it for one reason or another!)

Fall 2011 Fine Arts Show
I recently joined my town art society. It is awesome! I feel like I haven't been connecting with my "artist identity" as opposed to my "teacher identity" as much as I would like to have been, and this was just the thing I needed. We meet once a month and simply discuss art. Sometimes we will have a presenter do a demonstration, we'll talk about upcoming exhibits in the area, paint at a park, etc. I love it! Along with blogging, it's also a great avenue for me to network, too, which is always a plus. This past weekend we had the opening for our Fall Show. It's been a while since I've exhibited any work, but I'm glad I was a part of this amazing show! Check out some of the beautiful work:

It's a Twister! A Twister!
This year's play by our high school drama department was The Wizard of Oz. As an art department, we set up a mini art show correlating to the play. I decided I wanted to take on the tornado aspect of the story, and my what a task it was.

Dowce
My Block Posters page sent me to a new page, Dowce!, and I found it so useful I had to share this one, too! It's a free program you can download to easily create screen captures. It seems as if this program is just for Windows, but I use a Mac and frequently use their screen capture feature which operates in the same way.
Screen captures are a nice tool for fellow bloggers or any tutorials you may want to show your students.

Science Mural
I was approached by our PTG to create a Science Mural for our front foyer. I was excited because I haven't engaged in a large art project for quite some time now. I hope you like how it turned out!
Open House Display
This was a simple little fun display I put up for Open House this year. When students were done with their projects early, I asked them to decorate a person template into a self portrait. I even ended up scanning the school photos from last year's yearbook and making a person for each staff member. I hung them all up on a wall and instead of making a "Where's Waldo?" sign, used our Principal as our person to search for. It was quite a hit having each student be able to contribute to one large display and interact with it and their parents at Open House.
