I absolutely love attending art shows. High schoolers always BLOW me away with their talent! Here are a few photos of the talent being showcased in WNY. Take note of all the political commentary pieces this year!

Line Design

After a review/ intro (!) of the Elements of Art, we focused on line. Students drew a contour line drawing of an image of their choice, and then added line in for texture and form.

Color Worksheet

We're almost finished with our line study in Studio in Art and are moving onto the element of color. I really liked this worksheet found here, (the document sharing website will be shutting down at the end of this year :(    ) but I wanted to add in the vocab words of 'tint' and 'shade.' I made a couple tiny revisions and here it is! Thought I'd share if anyone was in need.

Elizabeth Murray

This was a fun little lesson my long term substitute did on artist Elizabeth Murray. Murray is a painter who used bright, bold colors, and interesting shapes. Murray’s distinctively shaped canvases break with the art-historical tradition of illusionistic space in two-dimensions. Jutting out from the wall and sculptural in form, Murray’s paintings and watercolors playfully blur the line between the painting as an object and the painting as a space for depicting objects.

Doodle Quest

Recently I was asked to review a game called "Doodle Quest." On a "ketchup" day with my 4th graders, the students who were all caught up with their work were able to try the game out for me. They loved it!

Christmas Grocery Bags

In Art Club this week we borrowed some paper bags from our local grocery store and decorated them for the holiday season! These bags will be returned and then will be floating around town- great publicity for us! And the kids are really excited to see their work outside of school, ya hoo! It was such a fun, easy, and free way to get artwork out into the community.
