Very random request- Vote for me!

Alright.. so this has nothing to do with the art education world... more so just the art world. As an art teacher, I happen to be really into interior design, too.

Shaving Cream Snowfriend

Have you seen or heard of this?! I love it! It's one part shaving cream and one part glue. We made these snowfriends in my Life Skills class and 4:1:1 class, but this can easily be done with Kinders and 1st graders too!

These were done with my long term sub. Although I can not take credit for this lesson, I thought they were too fabulous not to share!

Sunday Comic

So... I go back to work tomorrow : (. Although, I love my job, I really don't want my maternity leave to end. I miss my little Abe just thinking about it (and he's sleeping right in front of me!). However... I can't be like ol' Mona here and start complaining, I am very thankful to even have a career to return to. My timing couldn't have been more perfect, coming back from Thanksgiving break, being with family, and I even had my ten year high school reunion this weekend! Seeing old friends who are new mommies going through the same thing was really nice.

So here I am art bloggers, I'm back : )- hopefully posting soon. It might take me a little bit to get organized and back into the swing of things (June was a long time ago!), but keep a look out for me! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very blessed holiday season.

Welcome Baby Abram!

Just thought I'd share the wonderful reason I will be out for the beginning of this school year- welcome to the world baby Abram! Weighing in at 8 lbs 3 oz, 21 1/2 inches long - he's by far my best creation yet : )

Hope you all had a great, successful, and fun first day to the school year.. I know I wouldn't have spent mine any other way.

Long Term Sub (Part 2)

I thought I'd share the template I used for my long term absence in case anyone wanted a starting off point for whenever they may need a long term sub. I apologize ahead of time, I use Pages on my Mac and tried saving it as a Word Document so that you can edit it yourself, but for some reason the boxes get all mixed up, so I've attached a pdf. If you'd like a copy that you can just type on to, I'd be more than happy to send you the template with just the prompts and no boxes. Hope this helps!

Long Term Sub (Pt. 1)

Hello, friends... just looking for some feedback here. As summer is winding down and with school starting very soon, I am just making my finishing touches on my "Long Term Substitue Bible." I wasn't able to get back into my room until this past Monday, so I met again with my sub to put away supplies and "show her the ropes," so I've already explained a lot to her. However, as it is with all teachers, we really like to make sure everything is in order and tip top shape.

Famous Artists' Letters about 'Draw Something'

If you've ever played or heard of the now-trending game Draw Something, I thought you'd enjoy this article. Read through the experiences of several artists discussing the game between one another- pretty amusing : - ).

P.S... could be interesting to turn this into some sort of assignment where students are assigned a specific artist and are asked to create a dialogue with a peer.

2012 Fascination Award

                                               accelerated degree programs

Okay... so I've been a little MIA lately. Something happened in April where, even though I knew I had a lot of things coming up, my life had suddenly become the busiest it has ever been. But I haven't forgotten about you fine folks, I swear! My plan was to catch up with all the lessons I've done the past couple months and post them in the summer when I have much more free time. I feel even worse because I haven't even really had much time catching up with what you've been doing.

2011 Spring Art Show

I'm a member of my town's Art Society. It really helps me connect with other artists in the area and helps me "keep in touch" with my artist identity. This past month we held our Spring Art Show. I also had the pleasure of helping hang the pieces. I can't remember the last time I put up a show! Just thought I'd share some of the cool stuff there! : )

Glass Fusing

Before spring break, I had a guest artist come in to teach a little about glass fusing. I'm personally slightly obsessed with glass, and I thought it would be a great medium for the students to be exposed to. Glass fusing is an easy process and everyone is successful!

KONY 2012

If you haven't seen this on facebook or youtube or twitter.. or if you haven't heard about this at all, I urge you to please take the time to watch this video. It is about a half hour long, and although it is not about art or art education, it is about children and and a campaign that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.

What's most powerful to me, though, is the time we live in now with social media and the ability to communicate to the masses so much quicker, easier and more affective. As a blogger, along with my personal beliefs and morals, I felt compelled to share this video and pass the message along. I sincerely hope you get a chance to watch this and spread the word.

County Arts Council Art Show

Yesterday was the Opening Reception of our County Arts Council Art Show... well- supposed to be. Due to bad weather in the am, it was cancelled. I didn't know, so I went on down anyways. (I swear I'm jinxed into not attending the Opening Reception- this is my fourth year in a row- mind you, I've only been at my job for 4 years, to miss it for one reason or another!)

Professional Growth Technology Day

Today was our Tech PGC Day. As usual, got a lot of useful information, but found it hard to adapt in the art room. (Another aggravating point to note is... every time we have presenters show some awesome tools or sites, we try them out the next work day- and they're blocked! How frustrating is this?!) Anywho.. my notes from the day:

Guess who's breeding Creativity?

Me! Sorry I've been a little MIA lately... talk about busy! On top of teaching, prepping for my first art show of the year, planning my sister's wedding shower and helping my other four friends who's weddings I'm in this year.. I found out that I am with child! I'm about 11 weeks now and am so beyond excited. If you know anything about me, or could possibly pick up from my blog, you'll know that I am an extreme planner. Being prego has pretty much taken up all of my free mental time- all I do is think about how to stay healthy, what to expect, baby names, how to decorate our nursery! anything baby related - you name it. I haven't forgotten about the blogging world, don't worry. I'll be posting as soon as I can and I definitely have been trying to keep up with all you wonderful bloggers - just couldn't wait to share my news : ).
