Mixed Media Penguins

Materials:
- Watercolor Paper
- Watercolor Paints
- Paintbrushes
- Water
- Orange Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Oil Pastels
- Tissue Paper
- Mod Podge

With all the Penguin lessons I've seen (Lines, Dots & Doodles, Splish, Splash, Splatter, Art, That Artist Woman- just to name a few), I thought I might as well take a spin on it, too.

1. Draw penguin first with pencil. We started with a big bump first, added the scarf, two circles for eyes, and some ear muffs.

2. Outline with oil pastels.

3. Paint in with oil pastels.

4.Take a small piece of orange construction paper, fold and cut a "V" on the fold. You should have a beak shaped like a diamond.

5. Glue onto penguin.

6. We discussed warm colors and cool colors. Using cool colors, demonstrate and mod podge background with cool colored tissue paper.
