Teaching Mondrian (and a little more)

Materials:
- White Drawing Paper
- White Paper Strips
- Black Construction Paper
- Black Paper Strips
- Primary Colored Tempera Paint
- Secondary Colored Oil Pastels
- Glue
- Scissors

Why stop at primary colors with Mondrian?

1. We made a replication of Mondrian's work:

2. And then we did the "opposite;" black paper, white strips, secondary color blocks:

You can see on my exemplar, I started with paint (orange) and thought it was too translucent, so then I switched to oil pastel. After the paint dried, I see that it was brighter than the oil pastel.. so I may do it with paint the next time. You won't have to worry about this too much if you have actual black drawing paper!

3. We flipped the "opposite" composition over and traced three basic shapes:

4. Cut out and arrange!
